Picture Recipe: Frozen Bananas

Three exciting things happened this past week:

1. I graduated college
2. I am now able to eat Bananas, Almonds, and Lemon
3. Arrested Development is coming back for its third season

To celebrate, I decided to make some frozen chocolate-covered bananas (with various toppings).  Enjoy this picture tutorial so that you can make your own.  Tuning into Arrested Development, frozen banana in hand, prepared to do your own chicken dance?  Perfect, right?

You need the following to make yourself as cool as me ;)

-2 bananas
-.5-.75 oz. chocolate per banana quarter ( went ahead and melted 4 full ounces)
- 2 tbs. butter (per 4 ounces chocolate)
- toppings (walnuts, jimmies, candy bits, peanut butter chips, etc.)
- skewers for each frozen banana

Slice your bananas in half, skewer them, and set them in the freezer.  The longer you leave them in there, the firmer and colder they will be -and the better.  It will make the project much easier.  While they are freezing, work on the chocolate coating and the toppings!

Melt your butter over low heat in a heavy saucepan.  Chop your chocolate small.  This will help it melt more quickly and evenly.  Burned chocolate is bad news.

Stir your chocolate into the melted butter.  Stir until smooth.  Turn the heat off, but leave the hot pan on the hot stove to keep things melty.  Give it a stir every couple minutes just to be extra safe.

Assemble your toppings.  I used walnuts and rainbow sprinkles.

Use a metal spoon to coat each frozen banana with chocolate.  Be liberal.  Then roll in your toppings:

You can do any toppings you want, or none.  Lay your bananas on a frozen cookie sheet and return to the freezer until firm.  Several hours, at least.

When they're done, get out your banana costume, your blue paint, your denim cutoffs, or whatever other accessories float your Bluth Boat, and grab a frozen banana.

Make sure not to accidentally poke your eye out while doing the chicken dance.
